The amazing part is people don't even know that I'm drawing. We are still amidst the pandemic, so the faces are still covered. Is it crazy that I actually look forward to these bus trips?. Even if I'm tired, I find myself pulling out my sketchbook.
I keep the rough ones in on purpose. A sketchbook that only shows the polished work is lying about how it was made.
Some of these took thirty seconds, some took an evening. You can usually tell which is which, and that contrast is the whole point of the book.
Switching tools mid-page keeps the hand curious — ink one day, soft graphite the next, a ballpoint when nothing else is in reach.
None of this was planned. Each drawing started as a single line on whatever page happened to be open.
A live sketch is less about the finished image and more about training the eye to catch a gesture before it disappears.
